About this course

This is the individual courses on this site assembled into one programme and taught in sequence, on your site, by a working controls engineer. It exists because a maintenance or controls technician does not need one of these subjects. They need the whole picture, and they need it on the equipment they will be standing in front of on Monday.

What it covers, and the hours each part takes:

**Controls and PLC: 84 hours.** Electrical fundamentals and control panels, the Compact GuardLogix platform, Studio 5000, digital and analog I/O, ladder, timers and counters; then structured data with UDTs and Add-On Instructions, EtherNet/IP and controller-to-controller messaging, variable frequency drives and motor control, instrumentation and IO-Link, tasks and Structured Text and diagnostics, and functional safety.

**SCADA and HMI: 36 hours.** Ignition end to end: the gateway, the Designer, device connections and tags, UDTs, Perspective visualization, alarming and tag history; then the Vision module, SQL databases, Transaction Groups, scripting, reporting, security and deployment.

**Machine vision: 20 hours.** What vision can and cannot do, the In-Sight spreadsheet, locating and fixturing, the deep-learning tools, getting a result to a PLC without reading a stale one, and the lighting that decides whether any of it works.

**Robotics: 18 hours.** One controller family, taught properly: safety and the cell, the pendant, jogging and frames, teaching positions, motion instructions, I/O, program structure, and backup and recovery.

Optional additions, priced and scheduled separately: CNC startup and service on SINUMERIK 840D (24 hours), Micro800 and PowerFlex with the free Connected Components Workbench toolchain (24 hours), a second or third robot brand (18 hours each), and the MicroLogix 1100 course (11 hours).

The programme is modular. Most employers take the controls and PLC block first and add SCADA, vision or robotics as the plant needs them, rather than running twenty-six consecutive days.

How this is delivered, and what it is built from

This programme is assembled from the individual courses listed elsewhere in this catalog: the seven Compact GuardLogix courses, both Ignition courses, the machine vision course and one robotics course. Each of those has its own page with a full module list, so you can see exactly what is in the programme before committing to it. Nothing here is material that does not already exist.

Delivery is instructor-led and normally on site at your own location in Ontario, so the examples, the I/O and the exercises are your equipment rather than ours. Where you have no equipment free to train on, we bring it: PLC, drives and a control panel, set up in your building for the duration. Where a topic is better taught on a bench first, or where a team is split across sites, parts can be delivered online, but the default for team training is on site.

Content is customised before delivery. The controller family, drive, HMI platform, robot brand and instrumentation covered are set against what you actually run, and topics you have no use for are dropped rather than padded through.

Hours are instructional hours and are approximate. The twenty-six day figure assumes six-hour training days; scheduling in blocks around production is normal and does not change the total.

No certificate is issued by us. Where a programme runs in partnership with a college or training institute, that institution issues its own credential under its own name. See the Colleges page.
